Ayurveda, meaning “knowledge of life,” is an ancient, holistic Indian system of medicine

RACHANA SHARIR

INTRODUCTION

Rachana Sharir is a branch of Ayurveda that deals with the anatomical structure of the human body. It is the study of the body’s physical composition, including bones, muscles, organs, tissues, and systems, as described in ancient Ayurvedic texts. This discipline helps in understanding the body’s formation, functions, and relation to health and diseases from an Ayurvedic perspective. Key texts that discuss Rachana Sharir include the Sushruta Samhita and Charaka Samhita.

Rachana Sharir deals with the structural organization of the human body as described in Ayurveda, correlated with modern anatomy. The department focuses on the study of Sharir Rachana (body structure), organs, systems, Srotas, Dhatus, and Marma. Emphasis is given to both theoretical knowledge and practical dissection, enabling students to understand the human body in a scientific and clinical perspective essential for Ayurvedic practice.
